Line Dancing Hoe Down

On Friday, March 5th, a line dancing Hoe Down is being held in the Basement, Murtagh's commencing at 9pm. This is a fundraising event organised to help fund Ronan Daly to embark on a house building project in Bangladesh with Habitat for Humanity. If you are a line dancer why not come along for an enjoyable night on the floorboards and support this worthy cause. If you are not a line dancer and have wondered what exactly a Hoe Down is why not come along and see for yourself. Who knows the bug might bite. There will be a raffle held on the night. Training for Marathons

First night of training went ahead as planned Monday, March 22nd at 7.30pm. Thanks to the group that participated. It was a cold crisp night but we all managed to get warm after the warm-up joy and pre-stretches. We then managed without any red faces to do a 2.2 mile run as planned. Each week we hope to add some millage and build up some strength and speed. If anyone wishes to join us to get fit and active, do so each Monday evening 7.30 in Murtagh's Bar for pre-run, pep talk and route planner. Remember all fitness levels welcome, walkers and runners. Members who travelled to the Dail last week said the visit was interesting and educational. The next group travelled today Wednesday. Our next trip to Dublin is to see the Titanic Exhibition and those wishing to travel should sign on. Members travelling on the May 5-day week to Wicklow are kindly asked to pay their deposit. The cyclists would like to thank all who supported the recent Coffee Morning, Cake Sale and Raffle which was held in the Friendship Centre, Leitrim Village, on February 14th. A total of €740 was raised at this event and will go towards bringing children with special needs on a holiday to Lourdes at Easter.

Parents' Association, Carrick CS

The Parents Association was saddened to learn of the recent death of Principal Adrian Jackson's father and extends its condolences to the Jackson family. A contingent of teachers and students representing the school traveled to Cork to attend the services.
The next meeting of the Parents Association will be held in the Community School on Tuesday, 9th March, 8pm. All parents of current students, particularly 1st years, are cordially invited to attend for a discussion on various issues and an update from school management.

Community Survey: We are currently seeking the opinions of the local community about our Family Resource Centre. Do you use the Family Resource Centre? Do you know what it offers? Leitrim Addictions Awareness: On Thurs 4th March at 7.30pm, Breffni Family Resource Centre will host the 1st Shared Platform in Co. Leitrim, the aim of which is to raise awareness of the issues connected with addictions.  All members of the community are invited to attend to find out what supports are available and to listen to speakers from various fellowships such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Food Addicts Anonymous, Al Anon and Co Dependents Anonymous.  This Shared Platform will assist in breaking down taboos around addiction and in the words of the Bill W Clun coordinator, it will "bring addiction issues out of the darkness and into the light".

Kick-Start for the Unemployed: Breffni Family Resource Centre is proud to announce details of a new 8 –week Programme for those who are Unemployed, claiming Social Welfare Benefit (or spouses of those who claim benefit).  Over 8 Thursday afternoons, participants will learn new skills, meet new people, improve confidence and learn how to use their time to maximum potential. This programme starts Thursday 8th April. Organic Gardening Workshops: Back by popular demand, a series of five Gardening Workshops will commence on Tuesday 13th April at 8.30pm. Ideal for anyone interested in learning about 'growing your own' whether in patio containers, raised beds or allotments. Beginners Welcome. Total Cost is €65.
Yoga and Meditation for Women: A Weekend Retreat on Inis Rath in Fermanagh, over 3 days in April, women will have the opportunity for reflection, yoga, meditation, cookery demonstrations and fun within the confines of the scenic and secluded Inis Rath. Cost p100.

A Step Forward: Phase 2 of our highly successful programme for those with disabilities, this 8 week programme will focus on empowerment and networking for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. Plans are underway to commence this course Mar/Apr 2010.

Breffni Parent & Toddler Group: Breffni Parent & Toddler Group meets at 1pm to 3pm every Monday and Wednesday. All adults who are in the company of a toddler are welcome to come along to this cosy venue and enjoy a relaxed cup of tea or coffee, while the toddlers have a great supply of toys and equipment to play with. No booking is required, just come along on the day to the Cabin at Breffni Family Resource Centre.s
Breffni Pre-School September 2010 Intake: Breffni Childcare operates a well established Pre-School service that is HSE approved and operated by qualified and experienced staff.  From January 2010, Breffni is offering the Free Pre-School scheme (ECCE) to qualifying children.  The Pre-School service operates from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday for 38 weeks per year, i.e. generally based on school-term system.  
Enquiries are now being taken for the Pre-School Year Sept 2010 to June 2011, so if your child is due to start school in September 2011 please contact Nora regarding a place for the forth-coming Pre-School year. Menopause the Musical - Trip to Royal Theatre, Castlebar for the Over 55s: Join us on Friday, March 12th for a trip to the Royal Theatre to see the hilarious and inspirational show 'Menopause the Musical'. This uplifting 90-minute production includes parodies from the '60s and '70s and '80s and culminates with a salute to women who are experiencing The Change.
This trip is just p15 and includes your ticket and return coach journey from Breffni Family Resource Centre.

Beyond Yoga

Ken Ryan is from Galway but has spent much time in India with extended periods of study and practice at remedial, spiritual and scientific schools of Yoga. His style has been described as strong, energetic, deeply grounding and non-conventional. He runs very popular yoga classes in Galway and spends each summer teaching at retreat centres in Turkey and Spain.
