This event is part of the Gathering to celebrate Margaret’s 200th birthday. The weather has been kind to us over the last week and we are all geared up for a bug hunting, hay tossing, butter churning day of music, song dance and craft. Our very own talented David Rawle from Moone Boy fame will be officially opening the cottage, followed by a blessing of the house by Reverend Hazel Hicks and Father Dennis Murray PP. Blacksmith Thomas O’Reilly, who is famous for The Peace Bridge that was constructed for President Mary McAleese, will be forging Celtic pokers on the day; Paul Farrelly of Drummully Boxty will be making their delicious boxty; Caroline Walsh will be spinning and weaving from Flax and wool; Neil Foulkes will carve beautiful and functional wooden spoons in front of your eyes and Martin Doyle of Crutu, will be on hand to provide taster courses of sculpting in clay - Get your hands sticky and messy and see your artistic side emerge. The day will be rounded off with an evening of entertainment in The Corn Mill Theatre and Arts Centre, with specially commissioned pieces by Charlie McGettigan, John McCartin, Tony Fahy, Karl McCartin School of Dance and Maura Williamson’s Hedge School Drama re- enactment. Booking is advisable on 049 4339612 or bookings@cornmilltheatre.com - Admission €10 and family rates available. The Heritage day is free for all, with donations welcome. Fr. Tom has been their very popular parish priest for the past 10 years. At the mass of thanksgiving in St. Paul’s Church he was joined by his family, friends, fellow priests, parishioners - past and present, representatives from the Leitrim Peoples’ Association from Luton and Dublin, his former Leitrim and Gortletteragh teammates, his neighbours from Gortletteragh, who came together to acknowledge and celebrate his 50 years of priestly commitment. After the mass there was a marvellous social evening of chatting, song and music in the local community centre as old friends gathered, reminiscing on old times. Fr. Tom celebrated his first mass in St. Joseph’s Church, Cornageeha back in 1963. We wish him good health and the Lord’s blessing in his present and future ministries.
