Glens Rock School: The Annual Glens Rock School and Song-writing Week takes place in the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton from Monday, June 17 - Friday, June 21. The Rock School is suitable for all 10-18 years from drummers to electric guitarists to banjo players! The students will break into several bands and will learn songs, write their own songs and play together. On June 21, The Glens will host a Rock School gig on Friday, June 21. Carrick Carnival rocked in the sunshine

For ten days the county town rocked in the sunshine as revellers celebrated Carrick’s 400th birthday in a carnival atmosphere.

Naas history book launch

NAAS historian Michael Mulvey has written a new book entitled “From Castle Keep to Council Chamber”, which tells the fascinating story of Naas Town Hall over the past 150 years. The Town Hall has been at the centre of community life in Naas whether as a home for the Working Men’s club or hosting the splendour of the hunt ball. Mr. Mulvey has managed to capture all this and much more in a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The book is a significant addition to the library of Naas local history.

Local trad super-group Dervish play a concert in The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, this Friday, June 7 to launch their first studio album in five years “The Thrush in The Storm”.

Pictured are some of the participants who helped ensure Carrick-on-Shannon entered the record books on Sunday evening last as part of Carrick Carnival. In total 1,715 people took part in the world's biggest 'Rock the Boat' smashing the previous record.

Crowds flock to create memorable Carrick Carnival

Fireworks, a world record rock-the-boat and any amount of street entertainment resulted in a weekend that was deemed to be a tremendous success. President of Carrick Chamber, Gerry Faughnan said, “We have been very pleased with the feedback. One business man said he hadn’t seen as many people in the town in 25 years.”

In celebration of Carrick-on-Shannon 400, the County Town is hosting a ten-day summer festival (Friday 31st May – Sunday 9th June). The Carrick Carnival is jam-packed with events including the Carnival Opening Parade, the Bar-Man’s and Wife Carrying Races, Kid’s Fun Days, ‘Rock the Boat’ World Record attempt, Taste of Carrick Food & Beverage Expo and the revival of the much loved Phil the Fluter’s Fancy Dress Ball at The Landmark, to name but a few.

Fermanagh country singer, Sean Corrigan, will celebrate the launch of his third album, alongside a superb line up of country artists in The Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim on Monday 3rd June.

The first part of a major new RTÉ television series, ‘The Secret Life of the Shannon’ presented by Colin Stafford Johnson exploring the wildlife of Ireland’s great river will air on RTÉ One next Sunday 26 May on RTÉ One at 6.30pm. This natural history two-part documentary series brings viewers on a truly spectacular journey along the River Shannon, revealing the secret lives of its wild inhabitants.

The summer programme of Ceolaras Coleman features traditional Irish music group Ceide (named after the five thousand years old Ceide Fields in North Mayo) on Saturday 18th May at 9pm. The group consists of Brian Lennon on flute, whistle and vocals, Tom Doherty on button accordion/melodeon, John Mc Hugh on fiddle, Kevin Doherty on double bass, Declan Askin on guitar and Marianne Knight on vocals, bodhr�n and flute.
Ceide perform a mixture of traditional and modern Irish music and each member of group is an accomplished musician in their own right.
