Apply now for 2013 festival and artists bursaries

The Arts Office of Leitrim County Council is now accepting applications for the 2013 Festivals and Events funding Scheme and Artists Bursary Programme.

The Festivals and Events Scheme is open to organisations that promote festivals or events with a clear artistic purpose that will take place in 2013. Applicants will be assessed on the quality and ambition of the proposed activities and the feasibility and the completeness of applications in terms of budget and personnel, and other planning such as Health and Safety, Child Welfare Policies etc. Applicants should emphasise how their proposals will stimulate interest in the arts, promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts or assist in improving standards in the arts. It should be noted that there is no certainty of the level of funding available in 2013. Applications are being sought so that the Council will be in a position to process these and notify applicants as early as possible in 2013 so that appropriate plans can be made early in the New Year. Given the limitations of current resources, it will not be possible to fund all applicants and available funding will be allocated to those applications which best meet the programme criteria.

The Individual Artists Bursary programme is designed to further the development of individual artists from any arts discipline. Bursaries can be for any purpose that will demonstratively contribute to an artist’s development. There are three strands to the programme – a) Individual artists working independently; b) artists whose professional develop opportunity forms part of the work of an arts organisation such as a theatre company, artist’s collective etc.; or c) artists whose professional development opportunity comes from working with a community group. While there is no fixed number of awards, there is generally a larger number of lesser value bursaries and a small number of maximum value ones. Bursary amounts depend on available resources, number of applicants and the quality of applications.

Application Forms and information sheets are available from www.leitrimarts.ie, email ckelly@leitrimcoco.ie, or telephone 071 96 21694.

Completed applications, should be returned to Arts Office, Leitrim County Council, Aras an Chontae, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim by 4pm on November 30.
