Move over in the couch, take out the china and welcome the Moone family into your life.

Chris O’Dowd’s comedy ‘Moone Boy’ based on his youth in Boyle and starring Carrigallen’s own David Rawle will hit TV screens on Friday, September 14.

The premiere on Sky 1HD will include a double episode of the family series at 9.30pm.

Those who attended the World Premiere in Boyle on August 11 already saw the first two episodes, but they are worth seeing over and over again. Expect laughter from all the family, young and old and especially from anyone who grew up or reared their family in the late 80s, early 90s.

There will be some scenes from Boyle to watch out for, and David Rawle’s distinguished Carrigallen accent will help set the scene of bullies, tokens for bikes, poker nights and Mary Robinson’s election campaign!

Adapted from the actor’s 2010 comedy short for Sky 1HD’s Little Crackers, Moone Boy is a semi-autobiographical six-parter depicting Chris’s youth in Boyle, Co Roscommon. Written by O’Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy, the series, set in Boyle 1989, follows the adventures of the youngest member of the Moone family, 11 year-old Martin (David Rawle). In order to survive life with his chaotic clan – mum Debra (Deirdre O’Kane), dad Liam (Oscar nominee Peter McDonald) and older sisters Trisha (Aoife Duffin), Fidelma (Clare Monnelly) and Sinead (Sarah White) – Martin relies on his friend Sean Murphy (O’Dowd) for company.

Sean is no ordinary pal however, because he’s imaginary; a grown man with a beard whose middle name, Caution, gives him something of an edge. That said Sean Caution Murphy isn’t quite in the same league as Padraic’s (Ian O’Reilly) made-up mate, ‘legendary wrestler’ Crunchy Danger Haystacks (Johnny Vegas).
