Discover Leitrim in the year of The Gathering

Phaseone Electronic Music Festival

Phaseone Electronic Music Festival

Three Leitrim events are being promoted nationally as part of Discover Ireland’s calendar which focuses on the Year of The Gathering.

Two Carrick-on-Shannon events and one North Leitrim event are being promoted around the island in the Discover Ireland calendar that was distributed in The Irish Times last Friday, January 4.

The colourful calendar which focuses on marketing the variety of events held around Ireland every year is jam packed with festivals each month as the country gets set to host The Gathering.

The North Leitrim Glens 19th Walking Festival is featured in March. The event which takes place March 30-31 “offers both a long and short hill walk each day in the magical North Leitrim Glens.” Also a guided Sunday Ramble is noted to be suitable for all abilities.

In April the brand new Phase One: Electronic Music and Arts Festival in Carrick is prominently feature. This is a big feat for an event that is not established, this will be the festival’s first year. The event which runs from April 19 -21 is described as “explorations of electronic music and art.” The new festival will feature electronic music, digital and visual arts, film performances, installations, talks, demonstrations, workshops and much more. www.phaseonefestival.com.

In June Carrick-on-Shannon’s Water Music Festival gets a mention along with other high profile World Sound events such as Forbidden Fruit Festival Dublin and the Sea Sessions, Surf and Music Festival. Carrick’s Water Music Festival will run from June 24-30.

Locally in July Boyle Arts Festival, The Percy French Summer School and Festival in Castlecoote, Co Roscommon, Yeats International Summer School, Sligo and O’Carolan Harp and Traditional Music Festival Summer School are highlighted.

While Sligo, Roscommon and Donegal get fair publicity in the 2013 calendar there is little mention of our neighbours Cavan and Longford. A few years ago Leitrim didn’t get one mention in the annual tourism calendar so for three events from the county to be promoted is a great feat for the county and Leitrim Tourism and hopefully a good sign for tourism in the county in 2013.
