Minister opens Strokestown Show

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Shane McEntee officially opened the Strokestown Agricultural show on Saturday last.

Mr McEntee praised the show committee for organising another excellent community event, one that attracted a very high standard of entry from across the region to compete for prestigious prizes. The two day show caters for the traditional show classes like cattle and sheep, but also has a heavy emphasis on attracting younger and urban visitors with a range of attractions throughout the event.

The Minister said: “This show not only boasts some of Ireland’s finest livestock, but also has a wide selection of competitions for garden produce, home cooking, arts and crafts which is bound to attract a high standard of entry from competitors both young and old”.

He also welcomed the generous local sponsorship provided by a host of loyal sponsors. He commented: “Strokestown show is now in its 146th year and has grown to become one of the largest shows in the country. This is due the hard work of the local organising committee under the Chairman John O’Beirne. The organisers have shown great initiative and enterprise again this year in the quality of the programme.”
