Sligo Choral Festival

The 24th Sligo International Choral Festival will take place for four days from November 8 -11.

The event is now established as the 2nd largest choral festival on this island and since the inaugural festival in 1988 over 1000 choirs comprising more than 30,000 persons have participated.

This year over 40 choirs will bring more than 1000 visitors to the yeats coiunty, promising an extravaganza of vocal variety. There are more than 16 competitions for youth and school choirs, barbershop groups, male and female choirs and this year for the first time authentic church choirs - all competing for significant prizemoney and trophies.

The venues for the competitions are the Mercy College and nearby St. Annes Church. Taking part in the fringe events and concerts will be the bugle babes, the friday voices from london, the sogo african traditional music and dance group from Ghana, the Sligo Concert Band and the Sligo Cathedral Choir

The choirs from home and overseas will sing on the streets on Saturday afternoon and in the churches on Sunday.
