Written Word Weekend

The Written Word Weekend again comes to Drumshanbo for its fourth year on the August Bank Holiday.

On the Sunday night, August 5 in the Stained Glass Studio they will have readings by Dermot Healy, whose latest poetry collection, A Fools Errand, was shortlisted for the 2011 Poetry Now award and had his last book, Long Time, No See, published last year by Faber and Faber. He will be joined by Seamus O’Rourke of the Cornmill Theatre Group, who will be doing some of his Leitrim monologues.

Also on the bill will be the great Mike Absalom, a genuine living legend now resident in Swinford.

He has been a pop, folk and celtic music singer, guitarist, songwriter, harpist, poet and artist, who will be reading from latest book, Old Fart and Other Poems.

On Saturday there will be a free screening of two documentary films about science fiction writers, Douglas Adams and Philip K. Dick.

Also in the Yellow Ducati Bazaar on Friday, August 3 there will be an opportunity for all local writers of any kind to share their work with the public at an open mic, which will also be a free event.

Local author Steve Murray will be launching his book at this event as well. The festival is this year sponsored by Leitrim County Council and Poetry Ireland. More details can be found at writtenwordweekend.wordpress.com
