The first screening of Volkswagen Joe will be in the PEACE III Marquee in Cavan town this Saturday, August 25 at 1pm.
The drama was filmed in Ballinamore, Swanlinbar and in part of Fermanagh. Produced by Belturbet’s Kevin McCann, the central role is played by Stuart Graham who was nominated for an IFTA as the prisoner officer in ‘Hunger’ and has a role in the detective series called ‘The Fall’. Many local actors from the border area also appear. McCann told the paper there will be subsequent screenings of the drama based on the award winning play of the same name by Brendan McCann, before it makes onto TV screens.
VWJ is a political drama based on a border town during the time of the hunger strikes and addresses the personal dilemma that division presents during a conflict.
