It was ‘cameras and ceol’ in Keadue recently with SKY TV visiting the internationally renowned O’Carolan Harp Festival.
Some of Ireland’s best known and most gifted musicians, singers and dancers will feature in a special SKY TV programme Thursday August 22 at 9pm, produced and filmed by IRISHTV. The programme will shine a spotlight on the picturesque north Roscommon village, its rich harp heritage and the vibrant community spirit that keeps the festival alive and well each year.
The show, which is part of the ‘Out & About in Ireland’ series features fantastic interviews and performances from legendary composer Alan Tongue, current Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian and the world famous box player Sharon Shannon, as well as wonderful street performances and pub sessions from locals and visiting musicians.
Local historian Luke Gibbons and professor of history of NUIG Kieran O’Conor also feature on the programme talking about the legend of O’Carolan and the rich history and heritage of the locality.
“I have visited every corner of Ireland filming over the past year and Keadue is right up there at the very top. From the minute you arrive in the village there is a ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ for everyone and the beauty and tranquillity of the village will stay with me for a long time,” commented IRISH TV presenter Pierce O’Reilly.
Festival secretary Paraic Noone stated, “We were thrilled to have Pierce and his IRISH TV crew in Keadue for the festival. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the village and region to a huge audience and I know the viewers will enjoy the programme.” The programme is repeated Sunday at 7pm and Monday at 6pm, you can watch on www.irishtv.ie.
