Nomad Theatre Network has joined forces with Decadent Theatre Company for their 2013 production and bring Billy Roche’s play The Cavalcaders to the Hawk’s Well Theatre for two nights on november 12 & 13 at 8pm.
The Cavalcaders explores the lives and loves of a community of characters in small-town Ireland.
A rousing, comic play set in an old-fashioned cobbler’s shop; this is the story of a group of men who spend their days mending shoes and their nights as a barbershop quartet and singers of local legend.
Their musical harmonies, however, are not reflected in their private lives. The play imagines Wexford as an Irish Camelot and our shoe-makers are modern day knights.
With live music and a beautiful musical score, the play is both moving and entertaining as Billy Roche examines how men relate to men and to women.
In Cavalcaders the music is integral to the plot, driving the narrative. “The great poignancy of the play is that the singers are victims of the things they celebrate in their songs” Fintan O’Toole.
Directed by Andrew Flynn the cast includes Garrett Keogh (Veronica Guerin, Angela’s Ashes), Liam Heffernan (Raw, Fair City, The Running Mate), Robert Bannon (Sweeney Todd, Alice in Funderland), Dermot Murphy (Black Ice, Raw), Marion O’Dwyer (Love Hate, The Savage Eye, The Clinic) and Jane McGrath (Black Ice, Pure Mule, Game Of Thrones).
