The Leitrim Observer, together with Leitrim County Council and Leitrim Local Enterprise Office, cordially invite you to the launch of “Gleanings – Poetry Inspired by the Leitrim Observer” by Monica Corish.

The book will be launched by poet and curator Alice Lyons at The Dock, this Thursday, July 2 at 7:30 pm.

This book is a compilation of the poems that Monica gleaned during her year-long residency at the Observer. Each poem is paired with a photo collage of the stories and headlines that inspired it, allowing the reader to trace the poet’s journey from first spark to finished work.

As Leitrim Arts Officer Philip Delamere says in his Foreword to the book: “For those of us who get the paper each week, Monica’s residency has been a wonderful opportunity to read reflections and interpretations of aspects of life in Leitrim alongside the factual reports of that same Leitrim life.”

Some of the poems in the book are direct responses to headlines and stories in the Observer, other poems are inspired by Willie Donnellan’s photographs of football matches and Debs balls. The second half of “Gleanings” is a compilation of the Writing Leitrim Pages that appeared in the paper between August 2014 and June 2015.

There are also contributions from four Leitrim writing groups.
