The talented Monica Corish launches her new collection of poetry ‘Gleanings’ poetry inspired by the Leitrim Observer in The Dock, next Thursday July 2 at 7.30pm.

Monica spent a number of months working in this paper as part of the SPARK programme. Monica spent time mingling with reporters, photographers and other staff in the Observer, she examined headlines and stories and sought to reflect a different angle on the hard news stories, pictorials and features carried within the paper.

This beautiful collection is the culmination of Monica’s work as well as a compilation of Writing in Leitrim pages which includes work from Brian Leyden, DBC Pierre, Alice Lyons, Vincent Woods, Belinda McKeon, Owen Gallagher, Angela McCabe, Tom Stifoos and members of the Pig Executive, The Poets’ Cauldron, Kinlough Women’s Writing Group and Scríobh Carrigallen Writing Group.

Poems include Pinprick- based on Fracking articles, Debut- based on Debs photos, Driving cars held together with paper and string- based on a court case,

The Sonnet of the Warrior Queen - based on a sports report, MBNA Jobs Shock, Will South Leitrim now be forgotten?, No Fish will be Left in Lakes, warns Priests and Upon Request - based on the 60th anniversary of the Irish Farmers Association and much more.

Profits from the sale of this book will go to MSF Ireland.
