Carrick Film Society is showing ‘Free Men’ this Thursday, November 8, in Carrick Cineplex.
Directed by Ismäel Ferroukhi, the film is set in Paris during World War 2.
A young unemployed Algerian named Younes earns his living as a black marketeer.
Arrested by police but given a chance to avoid jail, Younes agrees to spy on the Paris Mosque.
Ultimately Younes is inspired to join the resistance by his unexpected friendship with a Jewish man.
Starring Tahar Rahim and Michael Lonsdale, this French/Moroccan film focuses on a little-known chapter from Nazi-occupied Europe; a time of great moral dilemma when Jews were being rounded up by the French police for extermination camps.
All films are shown at Carrick Cineplex on Thursdays at 8.30pm.
