The O’Carolan Harp Festival Committee are delighted to announce that Independent TD Lucinda Creighton of the Reform Alliance Group will perform the Official Opening of the 36th O’Carolan Harp Festival in Keadue this Sunday August 3 at 3.30pm.

Harpers and musicians are expected in large numbers to the picturesque village of Keadue on the shores of Lough Meelagh for the 36th O’Carolan Harp Festival which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend from August 1- 4. The festival has an impressive line-up of events including Frankie Gavin and DeDannan with Michelle Lally, Dartry Ceili Band, Shebeen, Rakish and Liam Purcell and Friends

Frankie Gavin is to present perhaps the finest version of his band, DeDannan, ever at the O’Carolan Harp Festival in Keadue this Sunday night, August 3.

Michelle Lally described as one with the voice of an angel and whose vast and varied repertoire is unequalled heretofore. Barry Brady from Roscommon on accordion is such a stylized performer and he follows in the footsteps of box playing greats like Jackie Daly and Mairtin O’Connor. Barry brings a life to the music which lifts he spirit and gels with Frankie’s electrifying fiddling and between them, they leave no stones unturned when it comes to exciting jigs, reels and hornpipes at the highest possible level.

Double Bass player, Paul O’Drisceoil from Kinvara, who has performed with Riverdance, brings a new dimension to the DeDannan sound. A superb bassist and a skilled jazz player and backing vocalist, Paul brings another energy source to the band. Colm O’Caoimh on guitar from Kilkenny is the youngest member and can only be described as unique. Unique in the sense that his understanding of musical accompaniment and ability to play like he does makes him special when it comes to accompanying Irish music and song.

The O’Carolan Summer School in Keadue is the concert to be held on Thursday, July 31. This is always a popular concert of traditional music, song and dance when Ireland’s leading artists will be performing. The tutors at the Summer School will take part in the concert and the MC is Eugene Murphy.

Craft Exhibitions and demonstrations which will take place on Sunday, August 3. Liam Purcell and his many friends will be performing at the opening ceremony and at the Door Dancing on Monday, August, 4. Historian and Councillor Des Guckian from Annaduff, will give the annual lecture titled “Jimmy Gralton, Heroic, Brave and True” will take place in Kilronan Castle on Bank Holiday Monday August 4 at 12 noon.
