Ballinamore event to
commemorate Leitrim’s most famous son

To commemorate the 99th anniversary of the execution of our most famous ‘Leitrim Son’, Seán Mac Diarmada, an event is being hosted at Ballinamore Library on Tuesday May 12th.

To commemorate the 99th anniversary of the execution of our most famous ‘Leitrim Son’, Seán Mac Diarmada, an event is being hosted at Ballinamore Library on Tuesday May 12th.

Mar chomóradh ar dhúnmharú Seáin Mhic Diarmada cothrom an lá sin naoi mbliana déag agus ceithre scór bliana ó shin, beidh ócáid chomórtha i Leabharlann Bhéal an Átha Móir ar an 12 Bealtaine.

May 12th was the date of Mac Diarmada’s death and the event includes a short documentary film about him, which was originally televised in 1966, around the time of the 50th Anniversary of the Rising. This film which lasts 45 minutes will be repeatedly shown throughout the afternoon on the large screen.

There will be a display of books and publications about Mac Diarmada and also an Exhibition about his life and times, along with his suitcase which was bought by the Library in 2008 and other memorabilia.

This initiative is a lead into the year of events to commemorate 1916 and Seán Mac Diarmada. Please come along to Ballinamore Library any time between 2.30 and 7.30pm on Tuesday May 12th 2015.
