Are they dancers or are they chancers? That is the question that will be asked of brave members of the public who are taking part in the upcoming Hup! Festival/Connacht Fleadh fundraising event “Dancers or Chancers?” in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel on Friday March 8.
Gardaí, teachers, footballers, bingo buddies and Macra are just some of the groups currently in training with World Champion Sean-Nós dancer, Edwina Guckian .
The fabulous All-Ireland medal winning Moylurg Céilí Band will play for each act and members of Sean-Nós ar an tSionnan Dance School will also provide entertainment in an event that will see dancers coming from Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon.
The “Hup! Festival” takes place in the week preceding Fleadh Cheoil Chonnacht 2013, as part of the Carrick 400 and Gathering events. From Sunday, June 30 to Sunday July 7, Carrick-on-Shannon will come alive to the sound of Irish traditional music and song.
A very comprehensive programme is planned, to include all facets of traditional music and culture.
The “Dancers or Chancers?” event is a perfect preview of the “Hup!” festival as it comprises elements of fun and enjoyment, as well as showcasing our talented youth, which is a primary aim of the festival itself. According to the Chairperson of the Hup! Festival/ Fleadh Chonnacht, Councillor Enda Stenson, “This is a night not to be missed, where there will be plenty of entertainment and best of all, hilarity!”
You can vote for your favourite act on the night or by purchasing votes for them beforehand. Check out Facebook or www.hup.ie for more details.
