Jamestown Show Committee will host their 49th annual show this Saturday, July 27 in Junior Byrne’s field; the day’s activities commence at 12.30pm.
As usual it is meant to be a leisurely and relaxing day out for young and not so young, alike.
This being the year of The Gathering, it is hoped that everybody with any connection to Jamestown either here in Ireland or further afield will head back to renew old acquaintances on Show Day.
The programme of events includes a Cookery Section for adults and children, 16 classes for Gardeners, a Flower Section for adults and children, 6 classes for Photography and 14 classes in the Dog Section.
There will also be competitions for Bonny Baby, Fancy Dress, Musical Chairs, Kiddies Races, Wellie Throwing, Potato Picking, Footing Turf, not forgetting the Glamorous Granny, Little Miss and Mr Jamestown selections.
Children’s entertainment includes Bouncy Castles, Face Painting, Puppet Show and Drumsna Award Winning Straw Boys under the watchful eye of Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian.
Spectators will also be treated to exhibtions of miniature ponies, vintage farm machinery, Tullyboy Farm animals and Birds of Prey.
For those leaning towards the culinary arts, Sham Hanifa of Jamestown’s The Cottage Restaurant and Bridgestone Guide Winner will put on a very interesting cookery demonstration at 1.30pm.
There will also be a cake and organic vegetable market on the showgrounds and a fortune teller named Madame Zara will also be on hand.
For the more light footed, if you feel like a jive or a waltz, a dance floor will be in place under the bandstand of John Hogan and band who will provide top class entertainment both on the field and also at the Show Social later in the evening.
As usual there will be a keen interest in the declaration of the Jamestown Show Queen and Most Eligible Bachelor.
To conclude the organising committee kindly invite your support on the day and they take this opportunity to sincerly thank all the sponsors, those who contributed so generously to the church gate collections and each and everybody who has assisted in any way in the running of the event.
See you all for our “Gathering” this Saturday, July 27.
