The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton and Pangur Ban Productions proudly present a revival of the acclaimed “The Gallant John Joe” with Tom Hickey on Tuesday, December 2 at 8.30pm.
Tom Hickey/Tom MacIntyre collaborations are a celebrated part of Irish theatrical history and “The Gallant John Joe”, a play for one actor is a phenomenal performance which captures the heart and the imagination.
This play garnered rave reviews when in toured over a decade ago and this revival follows an extensive collaboration and rehearsal period in The Glens.
“The Gallant John Joe” is the soliloquy of a Cavan widower grappling with physical and mental infirmity.
What keeps him on his feet is his capacity to tell stories, to make a story of anything that moves, using language as a crutch, ointment, talisman, intoxicant.
In his stories he introduces us to the characters in his life: Bossman, his well-to-do patronising friend; The Hitmatist; The Chinee; John-Joe O’Reilly, captain of the conquering Cavan team of the late 1940’s, and Jacinta, his teenage daughter.
“The Gallant John Joe” is on for one night only at The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton on Tuesday, December 2.
Curtains rise at 8.30pm and early booking is advised as this performance is sure to sell out fast.
