Strokestown International Poetry Festival begins

Poet Alice Lyons will read at the Strokestown International Poetry Festival this weekend.

Senator Catherine Noone, Seanad spokesperson on Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht Affairs, will formally open the festival at Strokestown Park House on May 3, with music by Strokestown Choral Group and poetry readings.

Attention will then turn to the Percy French Hotel, where the much loved stand-up comedian, actor and star of RTEs Halls Pictorial Weekly, Eleanor Tiernan, is this year’s judge of the ever popular Percy French Prize for Comic

Poetry, will host a high-spirited prize-giving event.

Always a central part of the Strokestown International Poetry Festival programme, this year the winners of the Strokestown International Poetry Award will be announced at an award ceremony on Saturday May 4 at Strokestown Park House.

Proceedings will starts at 8.15pm.

The festival includes a performance by trad supergroup We Banjo 3 in the Percy French Hotel, on Sunday, May 5.

There will also be readings by renowned poets Macdara Woods, Vona Groarke, Tony Walsh, Alice Lyons, and many more.
