The Dock will host a songwriting and music production workshop on July 17th & 18th.

Music First Education Programme provides a comprehensive look at creating music covering topics from song writing and performing to recording and music production.

The workshops feature Meteor Award Winner Luán Parle & Highly acclaimed Producer / Musician Gavin Ralston.

The workshop focuses on song writing, production, performance, touring and the latest developments in the music industry.

By the end of the workshop, the budding songwriters will have written, performed and recorded an original song collectively.

This is a unique and fantastic opportunity to get hands on experience of the day to day work in the music industry whether you aspire to be performers, songwriters, producers or work in music administration.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer and engineer Gavin Ralston, has been involved in the Music industry for many years - covering virtually every genre from rock, pop and folk to traditional, classical and theatre shows.

He began his musical career performing on the Dublin rock music scene before moving to Dingle in Kerry to study Irish traditional guitar with the legendary musical genius Steve Cooney.

He has since gone on to perform & tour with many traditional & folk acts such as Sharon Shannon, Eimear Quinn and Lunasa. Gavin also has an extensive rock and pop pedigree, having performed with and produced acts such as The Waterboys, The Coronas & The Blizzards.

Releasing her debut album at the age of 12, Luán Parle’s talents did not go un-noticed and she was signed by Sony Music Ireland in 2002 and was awarded the prestigious Meteor Award for Best Irish Female in 2007.

She has performed support for the likes of Elton John and James Blunt and worked with some of the world’s top songwriters and producers.

Luán regularly hosts music & songwriting workshops in primary, secondary and drama schools around Ireland & is a director of the Irish Association of Songwriters, Composers & Authors (IASCA). “First Impressions” was Luán Parle’s début album release after signing to Anim Records at the age of 12 following an appearance on The Late Late Toy Show. In 2010 Parle set up her own record label LPR Records and co produced her latest critically acclaimed album “The Full Circle” alongside musician/producer and good friend Gavin Ralston.

Last year’s one day songwriting workshop with Gavin and Luan was sold out so early booking is advised.

The two day course costs €60 and participation for one day costs €40.
