The 18th Lough Rynn Harvest Festival & Vintage takes place this Sunday September 2 and is returning to its spiritual home of Lough Rynn Castle Estate & Gardens. The annual festival which is organised by Bornacoola Development Association was officially launched last week along with a packed programme of activities for the festival.

Walled gardens

Indeed a feature of this years festival are tours of the walled-gardens, which should prove very popular on the day. They are made up of 4 separate gardens, terraced towards Lough Rynn lake. They have been restored to their former glory and are a delight to behold for their beautiful array of flowers, trees and shrubs. Within the gardens are the old glasshouse and turret or folly built by the notorious 3rd Earl of Leitrlm which are of great architectural interest also.

Vintage of High Quality

The Lough Rynn Festival is well known for its quality vintage display which attracts vintage owners and enthusiasts from every county in Ireland. Its huge selection of vintage cars, tractors, agricultural machinery, motorbikes etc as well as large selection of autojumblers are a sight to behold.

Old Farm crafts and Traditions

The interest in all things associated with life in Ireland in olden times never wanes. At the festival these will all be there to see---the thresher, hay making, hay rope making, a Day on the Bog, the old open hearthstone fire, cranecrook and pots, butter-making, boxty making, spinning wheel, strawcraft, etc. Indeed the attendance of the hard working members of Mohill Country Markets with their lovely fresh homebaking etc. every year is a big attraction.

Craft Show

A noticeable feature of modern Ireland is the emergence of high quality craft workers, and an impressive display by many top local and national craftworkers will be a feature of the 2012 Lough Rynn Harvest Festival. Woodwork, pottery, metalwork, stainedglass work, painting etc will all be represented and these craftspeople will be selling their wares also.

Great Family Day Out

Lough Rynn is a great family day out with much to entertain every age group. From the hilarious street theatre of Johnny and Mollie and the old house wake, to the Duck herding demonstration, Digger Ducks and much more the day will not be long enough!

Lots of Music

The well known T R Dallas and his band will play on the bandstand this year and indeed his recent popular hit ‘The story I tell you is True’ will suit the occasion. Ronnie Duignan, the popular Bornacoola performer will perform also. The Samba Band will be there too adding to the already heady atmosphere!

Childrens’ Amusements

The childrens amusement area once again will be chuck-full of all the old favourite attractions with many new ones added. Rodeo bull, Bouncing castle, Zorbing facepainting they’ll all be there and more!

Sponsors

Of course a festival of this size could not go ahead without the help of its many generous sponsors, from Leitrim and Longford and beyond who have stayed loyal throughout the years. Great thanks is due to them and indeed to all the helpers on the day without whom the festival could not go on.
