It seems appropriate that as the Solas Art Gallery in Ballinamore launches its Members Spring Show, opening this Friday, May 10, that spring seems to have arrived at last in the country.
Not only is there a bit of colour in the hedgerows and gardens but there is a blaze of colour coming up at this forthcoming exhibition.
This exhibition gives the members a chance to throw off the gloom of a very long winter and celebrate with new work. Many of the members are using new techniques, new subjects, giving a fresh feel to this exhibition.
There are nearly 40 pictures, including some sculpture, on show, it is impossible to list them all or even all the artists so here is a small selection of some of the newer style work.
Colourful new work from Marion O`Donoghue in the form of a still life; as well as her lovely broody landscapes; Carol Wood, who has a solo later in the year, an interesting Ink and pen wash; Douglas Ross with his stylistic “The Interview”; Colleen Quinn with a completely new subject matter, “Open Road”, how did she get the shine on that leather jacket! Brendan Dean, always interesting, has produced some vibrant and eye catching mobile and stabiles.
Also exhibiting are Jennifer Richardson and Grace Dixon (who are exhibiting after this one), Maureen Meehan, Alan McGrath, Sandra Vernon, Orlagh Murphy, Molly Richardson and more.
The only way to find out what is on show is to pop in and see, better still, come to the opening and meet some of the artists.
The opening this Friday and will be presented by Gabrielle Flynn, acting County Librarian, who is an accomplished artist herself.
The exhibition runs until June 1, gallery opening hours are Mon-Sat, 10-6pm.
Don’t forget that the popular Drawing Day at Solas will also be taking place on Saturday, May 18.
