The fourth Annual Drumkeerin Community Family Festival begins this Saturday August 15 and continues until Sunday August 23 with a host of events.
Some of the highlights include marquee dancing to Nathan Carter (Thursday Aug 20), Gerry Guthrie (Saturday Aug 22) and Declan Nerney (Sunday Aug 23). Apart from the dancing, the hard working committee have put together a varied list of events starting with the sheep dog trials on Saturday next at 3pm in the GAA Park. This event was very popular and interesting last year and should draw a good crowd.
Sunday is Sports and Family Day and begins in the GAA Park at 2pm with a Children’s Fancy Dress.
Trophies and medals for the sports have been very kindly sponsored by CAT (Costello Auto Trans) and the committee wish to thank Liam Costello for his generous sponsorship.
The sports will include underage races, ranging from U-6 to U-16, boys and girls; Married mens & womens races; Family relay race; Egg Throwing, Name the Doll, Penalty Kick, Puc Fada, Tossing the Sheaf, Stacking Barrells, Tractor Balancing, Throwing the 56, Bonnie Baby, Glamorous Granny, Pillow Fight, Wellie Throwing, Egg & Spoon race with a difference, Guess The Weight of the animal and a Family Farm Task competition. There will also be face painting and a barbecue so plenty there for everyone.
Monday night sees a variety concert in the marquee, starting at 8pm. An array of local talent will perform including singers, dancers, musicians with a comedy sketch in what should be a brilliant night.
Posters with the full list of artists have been circulated in the local shops and pubs.
Tuesday night is Fashion Show night in the marquee at 8pm. Again, an excellent list of shops will model including EJ’s menswear, Kabuki, Ruby Lane, Manor Fashions, Padanee Bridal and Carrie Bradshawe designer shoes. Hair on the night is by Aisling Flynn, Make up by Niamh-Beauty on your Doorstep and chair covers by Anne Hurrell, not forgetting Best Dressed Lady sponsored by Cllr Mary Bohan and Best Dressed Man sponsored by Cllr Felim Gurn. Leitrim wedding cars are the main sponsor of the night and the show will be co-hosted by Eileen Slevin & Seamus Gallagher.
Doors open at 7.30pm so come along early and have a cup of tea or a drink at the bar to start the night off.
On Wednesday, the Clay Pigeon Shoot takes place at 5pm in the GAA Park.
This is a new event and should provide plenty of entertainment for everyone. Wednesday evening sees an under 12 disco from 8pm until 10pm in the marquee.
