Following a successful first visit in June to the Carrick-on-Shannon area, Leitrim County Council’s Traditional Musicians in Residence Donal Lunny, Seamus Begley and John Carty are preparing for their second visit at the beginning of October.

The first visit included trips to schools and community groups culminating in a sell out gig at the Dock. This time the group will visit the south of the county, taking in Ballinamore and the surrounding areas.

This is part of the Leitrim Equation - Leitrim County Council’s Traditional Music Residency which aims to promote and develop traditional music in Leitrim.

The residency takes place over 18 months and consists of a number of visits to different areas in Leitrim, meeting local musicians, learning Leitrim tunes and spending time in different community settings.

Coupled with a performance programme based on the music of Leitrim, musicians from the county will have the opportunity to avail of a range of professional development and mentoring opportunities over the course of the two years. Leitrim musicians interested in taking part in this should contact Maureen Carty on (071) 96 68063 for further information.
