In celebration of Carrick-on-Shannon 400, the County Town is hosting a ten-day summer festival (Friday 31st May – Sunday 9th June). The Carrick Carnival is jam-packed with events including the Carnival Opening Parade, the Bar-Man’s and Wife Carrying Races, Kid’s Fun Days, ‘Rock the Boat’ World Record attempt, Taste of Carrick Food & Beverage Expo and the revival of the much loved Phil the Fluter’s Fancy Dress Ball at The Landmark, to name but a few.
The Phil the Fluter’s Ball is a Fancy Dress Party and draws people from near and far in the most imaginative and fun costumes. This festive night begins with a fireworks display, proudly sponsored by The Landmark Hotel just across the road at the Quay. This display promises to be the most spectacular display in the North West this year and begins with a waterside theatrical dance display at 11pm with The Victoria Walker School of Dance – all choreographed to music by the Hijackers. The evening by the Quay is going to be brilliant and well worth the little ones staying up late to enjoy.
From there it’s across the road to The Landmark for the famous Phil the Fluter’s Fancy Dress Ball for some good old fashioned craic. The Ball was the headline feature of the Carrick June Bank Holiday Festival of old and has earned itself a reputation for one of the best nights out in the County Town. For the revival of the Ball, the brilliant Late Nite Radio will be there, playing all your favourites and will have the party in full swing until the wee hours – just like the old days.
The Ball will be held on Sunday, June 2 and tickets (€10) are available at The Landmark Hotel, at Crescendo (Bridge Street) and Kieran’s Pharmacy (Main Street). Tickets will also be available on the door. Doors from 11pm and there will be a raffle on the night will all the proceeds going to North West Simon Community.
So have some fun and use your imagination – there will be some great spot prizes for the best costumes. This event is proudly sponsored by The Landmark Hotel and www.littlestarparties.ie (local suppliers of Fancy Dress Costumes).
