This Summer on Friday, July 31 Solas will be holding its largest Open Exhibition for a while.
This show is not just for members but includes artists from the North West and a bit beyond. The submitted works go before a selection committee, ensuring that the exhibition is of a high standard and variety.
This year there will be about 70 pictures on display.
The range of work goes from contemporary to landscapes; portraits; flora & fauna, you name it and it could well be here, also including a fabulous metal sculpture.
A variety of mediums have been used, charcoal, pastel, oils, acrylics, watercolours, fabrics and mixed media. A few images have been randomly chosen to illustrate the wide choice of work, needless to say the Gallery cannot list everything.
There will be a full list of participating artists on the website and on Solas Art Gallery facebook page.
During this exhibition the Ballinamore Festival takes place and, for the first time, artists from the Free Fringe Festival will be performing upstairs at the gallery.
On Friday, August 21 from 4-5 pm there will be spoken word and acoustic performance including poetry, reading by Elizabeth McGeown, and music by Etain & Christina Crittenden. On Saturday, August 22 the Solas Art Gallery will host Spoken Word performances including poetry by Mike Absolam and music by Aapo Halme.
The open exhibition will open this Friday, July 31 at 7.30pm. It will be opened by Sarah Searson, Director of the Dock Arts Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Solas Gallery is very appreciative of Sarah making herself available to come to Ballinamore.
The exhibition will continue until August 29, opening hours, 10am - 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
If you can’t make the opening please call in during the month and enjoy. The Gallery has a different exhibition every month, all details available on website www.solasart.ie, or phone Gail or Ben 071 9644210; email email@example.com
