In front of a large crowd in Dromahair last Sunday evening, Rossa Ó Snodaigh revealed the village has been selected as one of 12 communities throughout Ireland to take part in the new TG4 programme ‘An G-Team’ and compete for a prize of €40,000.
The aim of the programme is to see communities attempt to improve their Irish and use it in their daily routine ahead of what is described as ‘G-Day’. G-Day is the day the cameras will be rolling throughout the village hoping to capture the locals carrying out their everyday business using whatever Irish they may have.
Whether meeting friends in the street, buying groceries or whatever you may be doing on the day, everybody is encouraged to take part as the w40,000 prize on offer to the winning town is certainly going to ensure it will require a real community effort in order to be successful.
Competing in the competition was originally the idea of Bríd Donoghue and having sent off her application, Bríd then had to compile an itinerary that would impress the judging panel after Adare Productions made their first visit to Dromahair on Thursday last.
