This Saturday, September 22 well known local artist Colleen Quinn will hold her third Solo Exhibition at the Solas Gallery in Ballinamore. Always an event to look forward to, this exhibition is no exception. Titled “Simple Pleasures” it is just that. In these days of technology, stress and bad weather perhaps we tend to forget the simple things that make us stop for a minute and think, “that’s lovely”.
Colleen has based her pictures on images drawn from family and friends, things that make people happy. She has been drawing for a long time, mainly using charcoal. Seven years ago she began using pastels and really has been ever since. Trying different papers for different effects, and finding the right materials, Colleen is now really comfortable with her chosen art form. The contents of this exhibition range from monotone , like “the Churn Man”, “Busker” and “Wait till I tell ya a good one”; portraits of President Michael D and “Reading by the Fire” a stunningly different view of JB Yeats. “Ready for the road” and “OL 35” are sure to bring a nostalgic smile, while her portrayals of animals, especially her dogs and of young children, keep an eye out for “Make a Wish”, definitely live up to “Simple Pleasures”.
The exhibition will be opened this Saturday at 7.30 pm by Tommy Moran, well known and respected Ballinamore man and will continue until October 13.
