THIS weekend the Leitrim County Fleadh 2011 will be celebrated in style around Glenfarne and Manorhamilton.

Preparations have been ongoing for weeks from local comhaltas branches around the county to make the 2011 Fleadh a special one as this year marks the 60th anniversary of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

It has been four years since Glenfarne and Manorhamilton welcomed traditional musicians from all over Leitrim to take part in their county fleadh and they are ready to put on a great show this weekend, April 16-17.

This year the event is being organised by Killargue/Manor and Glenfarne branches and supported by the County Board.

As well as impromptu sessions, a love of everything Irish and a whole lot of craic, the annual dancing, singing and music competitions will showcase the very best of traditional talent in the county.

The week-end will begin on Friday, April 15 with a session in McHughs, Glenfarne.

A street busking session will take place on Saturday, April 16 on the Market Sq in Manorhamilton to raise funds for the hosting of the fleadh. At 4pm the U8’s will be in action with a confined competition in whistle, fiddle and accordion taking place in the Ballroom of Romance, Glenfarne. Dancing competitions will take place in the same venue beginning at 5.30pm with ceili, set and sean nos dancing. To finalise the evening a Fior Ceili will begin at 9.30pm with dancing to the fabulous Assaroe Ceili Band from Ballyshannon. So all you dancing enthusiasts get your dancing shoes ready and practice a few steps.

On Sunday, April 17 young competitors will have an early start with the U10 competitions in flute, whistle, accordion and fiddle beginning at 10am in St Clares Comprehensive School, Manorhamilton. All other competitions will follow throughout the day in comhra, song and music. Gig Rig entertainment and presentations will take place at 3pm in the Market Square. Pub and street sessions (weather permitting) will also take place during the day.
