The Solas Gallery in Ballinamore has had many wonderful exhibitions by many talented artists.
Just occasionally something with just a bit more comes along, “Leaving the Box Behind” by Carol Wood is one of these, and it will opening at the Gallery this Friday September 6th.
Like many artists Carol has always been creative, but this had to take a back seat until her move to Co. Roscommon in 1997 re-awakened her creativity. From day one, Carols work has attracted attention, being accepted and sold at many group exhibitions, Boyle Arts, Solas, Dock to name a few and recently by the Royal Ulster Academy. This is her first Solo Exhibition since her Grad Art Show.
Carol’s work has always had a dreamy quality, layers of colour, seeing what memories are allowed to show through, soft yet vibrant. This current body of work is no exception….Carol travelled to different cities and was inspired by the buildings and memories they evoked. Modern architecture is also an influence in her work, somehow finding beauty in a block of offices or a multi-storey car park. The work is soft, interesting, so pleasing to observe, and many of the pieces are small in size yet immense in content. The exhibitions opens this Friday at 7.30pm and continues to 28th Sept. It will be opened by local artist Sandra Vernon. It is also worth noting that Culture Night at Solas on Friday September 20 will be on during this exhibition. Everybody is welcome to attend.
