Three workshops take place at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton next month. These include classes on sketching, jewellery making, small scale metal/mix media fabrication and welding.
The first course takes place on Saturday and Sunday June 13 and 14 and is a Free Hand Sketching workshop which will be overseen by Mary Byrne.
This course includes hand drawing techniques with pencil and ink, studying light and shade and explore the use of shadows, line, tone, texture, form, scale and composition. This course is suitable for beginners and the more experienced and costs €130.
The second workshop is a jewellery and small-scale metal/mixed media fabrication course with Fiona Mulholland and Soraya Ricalde. This takes place on June 20 and 21 and is an opportunity to work in precious and non-precious metals and is designed for students who are interested in learning basic jewellery techniques and for those with some prior knowledge who want to improve existing skills. The course covers techniques such as design/metal preparation, piercing and small hollow form construction. The cost for this course is €170.
The third course is a welding workshop under the tuition of Michael O’Hara on June 27 and 28. The module was designed to introduce the student to Metal Crafts, which they can apply to their own requirements. This includes an introduction to cutting and grinding techniques and uses of hacksaw; files; drills; hammers; grinders; chop-saw; sanders. This course costs €200.
