Leitrim communities are being urged to avail of the grants for local energy projects.

Some €13.2 million funding is available under the Better Energy Communities Scheme in 2015 launched recently by Minister for Energy Alex White, TD and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)

Projects implemented in Leitrim in 2014 included:

• A lighting upgrade, replacement pf windows in Aras an Chontae and a public lighting project led by Leitrim County Council.

• Heating upgrades to Mohill Public Library and Mohill Fire Station and energy upgrades in 23 Local Authority homes.

• Heaton’s (Energia) led a project which involved the retrofit of existing lighting with energy saving LED lighting in Heaton’s, Carrick-on-Shannon.
