The London Olympics opens this Friday, July 27, but not everyone will be revelling in the fun as the English capital comes to a halt. Local actor Chris O’Dowd has joined with Tourism Ireland to promote Ireland as a destination to ‘Escape the Madness’ during the Olympic games.
The city of London will come under huge pressure from the large number of athletes, teams and tourists from all over the world who will descend on the City of the Thames. The influx will put public transport and already large traffic jams under immense pressure. Tourism Ireland is targeting these weary London commuters to Ireland with their newest marketing ploy to ‘Escape the Madness.’
Local funny man Chris O’Dowd from Boyle, Co Roscommon makes a cameo in a short video promoting Ireland and provides his unique Roscommon accent to the voice over. The video shows two friends in London have a race to see whether one can get to Ireland as quick as the other arrives at his city office. The €500k advertising campaign follows on from previous print, online and outdoor advertising, to attract Britons to Ireland during this busy period. See the video at discoverireland.com
