The search is on in the county and throughout the country for the best social housing schemes as part of the Community Housing Awards.

Organised by the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) and sponsored by Allianz Insurance, the awards seeks to recognise and reward the excellence in the delivery of social housing across the country.

Categories for the 2013 Awards have been extended to 10 to mark the award’s 10th anniversary.

The various categories include: Housing for Older People; Homeless Projects; Regeneration; Innovative Finance Solutions; Collaboration Initiatives; Housing for People with Disabilities; Housing Management Initiatives; Traveller Accommodation; Mixed Communities and Housing for Families.

Mr Donal McManus, ICSH Executive Director, said, “The Awards promotes and showcases how innovative design can help create sustainable communities and impact positively on the lives of tenants and residents, the local and wider community and also contribute towards a sustainable environment.”

The competition is open to all local authorities, housing associations and housing co-operatives.

Up to two projects per organisation can be submitted for entry in the two separate categories.

The nominated project should be completed or refurbished between the period July 2010 and June 2013 and should have tenants living in the homes.

Submissions should be made to ICSH not later than Friday, July 5.

The winners will be announced at the ICSH biennial conference whichwill be taking place in Wexford on September 18 and 19.
