At least 20% of Leitrim people are expect to do some Christmas shopping across the border this year.

A survey by the AA found Leitrim people and those who live in the border area are more likely to do some shopping in northern Ireland over the festive season for food and alcohol items.

In the survey 40% of Donegal people said they would cross the border for shopping, with 32% in Cavan, 23% in Louth, 22% in Monaghan and 20% in Leitrim.

Conor Faughnan, Director of Consumer affairs at the AA said travelling North to shop is not always cheaper.
