Still having difficulty getting broadband or mobile coverage?

Are you still having difficulty getting broadband for your home or business? Or have you problems with mobile phone coverage?

Leitrim County Council in conjunction with the Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN) held a meeting in December last on broadband and telecoms issues. As a result of that meeting, it was considered vital to carry out an up to date survey of broadband availability and telecoms concerns in Leitrim. The short questionnaire has been circulated to all primary schools in Leitrim for parents of children in these schools to complete. A questionnaire is also available to others to complete either on line at www.leitrim.ie or by calling in to your local library or main council office and filling out the questionnaire.

This survey is also being carried out in the other nine council areas across the central border region. The purpose of the questionnaire is to provide hard evidence of the actual situation in relation to broadband in Leitrim and other border areas in order to put pressure on National Government to address the gaps in both broadband and telecoms provision.

At the meeting held in Leitrim County Council offices in December 2011, a number of people expressed their dissatisfaction with the broadband service and quality which they are receiving but without hard evidence through a high return of questionnaires or on-line at www.leitrim.ie , it will be difficult to present a case for upgrading broadband provision to this area.

Leitrim County Council is keen to ensure that Leitrim has full broadband coverage and for this reason is involved in the carrying out of the survey with ICBAN. We encourage as many people as possible to complete the questionnaire in any of the following ways by February 3rd next:

• Completing the questionnaire brought home to them through their children in primary schools;

• Calling in to their local library and completing the questionnaire available at the library desk;

• Calling into the offices of Leitrim County Council in Carrick on Shannon and completing the questionnaire available at reception;

• If you have access to the internet, completing the form on line at www.leitrim.ie.
