Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Agriculture, Michael Comiskey, is urging famers to engage with the Department in developing the new system of farm payments.

The Department has
compiled a questionnaire which is available on its
website (www.agriculture.ie) and will be open to the
public until 20th September.

“The new CAP agreement will introduce some of the most significant
reforms since its beginnings in 1962. Member States
will be allowed greater flexibility on how the direct
payments system will operate,” he told the Leitrim
Observer.

“The Minister and his Department have committed to holding a comprehensive consultation process with all stakeholders, part of which is the questionnaire process allowing individuals to express their views on a variety of issues including; allocation of entitlements, convergence, greening and young farmers.

“The new system will be effective from 2015 onwards,” he pointed out.
