RDS Committee of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Chairperson, Tom Cannon, recently presented the 2013 RDS Champion of Champions Awards in Ballsbridge. With a prize fund of €10,000, the Awards continue an RDS involvement in livestock breeding which began with the first Spring Show on the lawn of Leinster House in 1831.

The Irish Hereford Cattle Society Champion of Champions for 2013 and recipient of the Society Spring Show Trophy, an RDS Silver Medal and a cheque for €1,000 was Coote Geelan of Dromod, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim for Kye Rodge 553.

Kye Rodge, who had an outstanding 2012 show season, was selected as Supreme Hereford Champion from a sea of quality animals from across the UK and Ireland at the 2012 Balmoral Show. This is the first time in living memory that a Hereford from south of the border has achieved such high honours at the Balmoral Show.

Judge for the event and former Hereford Cattle Society UK Chairman, Mr Robert Irvine, was very impressed with Kye Rodge, his muscling, his beef qualities and excellent locomotion and had no hesitation in selecting him as overall Hereford Champion.
