Bring forward farm payments immediately

Following a devastating Summer for agriculture, Leitrim County Council is writing to the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Simon Coveney, TD to bring forward the payments to farmers immediately due to the severe weather conditions.Councillor Caillian Ellis proposed the motion to and said “disaster is coming down the line” for farmers. He said payments should be brought forward and paid out at the end of September. Cllr John Ward said many farmers are already buying silage and Cllr Gerry Dolan said many farmers have had to sell cattle they only bought in Spring because they are “short of fodder.”
