A public meeting looking at the introduction of equine passports, animal welfare issues and the challenges facing horse breeders in Ireland has been organised in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on January 17.

The meeting is open to all interested parties including members of political, veterinary and equine related bodies. The agenda includes discussions on the introduction of equine passports, animal welfare and the challenge of preserving Ireland’s good name on international equine markets.

Meeting organisers say there are serious concerns over the introduction of expensive registration and tracing protocols and the impact these were having on ordinary farmers and horses owners.

The meeting is set for Friday, January 17 at 7.30pm in The Landmark Hotel.
