Whether you just got your Leaving Cert results, are still in the school system or you are in the need of a career change - choosing what job to do in life is no easy task.
The first thing we all need to assess are our talents - write down what you feel you are good at. But don’t forget to have a list of things you are not good at, so you can check off future careers that may clash with those less desirable skills.
Next you need to ask yourself what you want for the career - emotionally rewarding where you leave at the end of the day feeling that you have made a difference to someone’s life or is it more important for you that you have job security. Do you want a job which is constantly changing or would you want to be settled in one place and be able to work your way up the ladder in your chosen career. Remember it is not all about the money - if you are miserable in the job or the career that takes up all your time the salary will mean nothing to you.
The obvious thing that is holding you back from your dream job is qualifications and work experience. Research what level of education you need, if you have access to it and determine if the end goal is realistic.
Work experience can be an opportunity to experience your chosen career without commitment to see if it really is how you imagined it would be.
