In September 2011, Leitrim Genealogy Centre provided an extremely detailed family assessment for the grandfather of New Yorker Clare Sheeran Levin which culminated in a family reunion with unknown relatives living in New York.

Claire Sheeran Lavin contacted the Leitrim Genealogy Centre as her grandparents Denis and Delia Sheeran both died while her father was only in grade school, and “whatever family history they had went to the grave with them, unfortunately.” After getting a huge amount of information from the centre, she wrote to express her family’s gratitude.

Writing to the Leitrim Genealogy Centre she said, “I was thoroughly fascinated with the amount of family history you were able to provide!”

“Through the information you provided, I was able to eventually locate family members we had never met before. Indeed, we never knew any others of the family had come to the States. However, I was able to trace Teresa Rooney (now Sr. Brendan Rooney) from the information you provided. In your Assessment, she is listed as the daughter of Catherine Anne Sheeran and Philip Rooney, born 12-Feb-1918 in Leitrim. She is currently residing in Graymoor Abbey in Garrison, New York.” Through the genealogy work, Claire found that Sr Brendan was infact living just a couple of miles from her eldest brother John Sheeran!

“I was totally thrilled to finally be able to meet some of my grandfather’s family, after having gone throughout life not knowing anything at all about him or the Sheerans. Thank you for making this possible.”
