GIY (Grow it Yourself) Ireland is a not-for-profit initiative (registered charity, CHY: 18920) that is literally sweeping the nation. It aims to make home-grown food the norm by inspiring people to grow their own food and providing them with the practical skills they need to do so successfully.

The organisation gets GIYers together (in the community and online) on a regular basis to talk, learn from each other and exchange tips, produce and advice. GIY activities include monthly meetings, talks and demos; garden visits, seed and seedling swaps; produce bartering, mentor panels and grower’s meitheals.

GIY Carrick-on-Shannon will be based at the Oarsman and the first meeting takes place on Tuesday, November 1 at 7pm. On that evening following the official launch and introduction to GIY, gardeners and those who would like to learn about gardening are encouraged to get to know each other and share experiences from their own patch.
