Sligo/Leitrim Senator, Michael Comiskey, has welcomed the approval for funding for the development of a multi-purpose sports facility in Manorhamilton.
Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, has given Leitrim Development Company approval to allocate €318,130 to Manorhamilton Community Recreation & Sports Ltd, for the development.
The project at Boggaun, Manorhamilton will consist of an all-weather playing field, with car-parking spaces and will ensure the provision of outdoor facilities on a year round basis.
“Investing in projects such as these are vital in maintaining vibrant rural communities and I have no doubt the facility will be of huge benefit to local clubs and societies.
“The project will now go to the Board of Leitrim Development Company for final approval. As the funding must be drawn down in full by September 30, 2014 I expect the project to progress and be completed without delay,” said Senator Comiskey.
Welcoming the news, Tony McLoughlin TD said the project “will provide outdoor facilities for all types of recreation and sports on a year round basis and will be of immense benefit to Manorhamilton and the surrounding area. I know it will improve the quality of life and will strengthen the social and economic fabric for all the area’s inhabitants.”
