Back To Education Initiative

The Back to Education Initiative provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It gives people an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Fees are not charged for those in receipt of social welfare entitlements, with medical cards or those with less than second level education.

Courses include: Healthcare, Retail Sales and Food Hygiene, Computers and Intensive English and lots more. Details are available from Paul Hamilton, Community Education Facilitator on 071-9621371.

LEAP: Adult Basic Education Service

The Basic Education Scheme caters for individuals who wish to brush up on their reading, writing and maths skills or who want to attain some basic qualifications. It offers tuition in English, Numeracy, Workplace Learning and Family Literacy. Tuition takes place on a 1-1 basis and in groups and FETAC awards are offered at Levels 1-3. Dyslexic students are also catered to with specifically designed programmes. English as a Second Language is also offered on a group basis. The service is confidential and county wide. Community Education Courses

Community and voluntary groups wishing to establish and deliver educational programmes in their own locality may contact the Community Education Facilitator, Paul Hamilton, 071 9621366.

The purpose of this scheme is to assist community and voluntary groups to deliver a range of educational activities for disadvantaged adults within their community.

Community and voluntary groups who are involved in provision of educational activities for the specified adult target group can apply. The grants provided are to enable adults to avail of community education at minimal or no cost and priority is given to groups in disadvantaged areas, projects aimed at groups, educational activities that lead to progression of the individual and the group and also education that has national accreditation.

Adult Education Guidance Service

Leitrim Adult Education Guidance Service is a professional and confidential service that will offer information, guidance, advice and support to assist adults in making the best possible choices for learning and/or career progression.

The adult education guidance service is for adults who are thinking about returning to or continuing education, want to explore new forms of education and training or simply want some guidance or advice.
