Drumkeerin Community Family Festival continues

The Drumkeerin Community Family Festival commenced last night and there will be events and activities taking place to suit all ages up until next Sunday.

The fashion show takes place tonight (Wednesday) in the marquee. Refreshments will be served at 7.30pm and the fashion show will begin at 8pm featuring events by Ray Michael, Allure jewellery, Jennifer Wyrnne Hat Design, Manor Fashions, The Vintage Room, Kabuki and Carrie Bradshaw.

Also on the night there will be a prize for the Best Dressed Lady, hair and beauty demonstrations, artistic stands and a raffle.

Also today the Mobile Cinema, which will be situated at the National School, will be showing 2 films, Men in Black 3 at 3.00pm and The Dark Knight Rises at 7.00pm

On Thursday, street events will take place from 6.00p.m., some of the events include slow bicycle race, pub tug o war, guess the number of balloons in a mini (that’s a car), name the doll, face and nail painting, fancy dress for children, tractor balancing, wellie throwing, eating competition, mystery person, and direct from her world wide tour, famous fortune teller Gypsy Gertie will be there.

A FIFA Tournament takes place in Davitts Bar from 6.00pm on the big screen, also on Thursday.

Later that night in the Marquee, a foam party and disco takes place at 11.00pm with dj Fergal Darcy

On Friday, the car treasure hunt starts at 6.00p.m. from the Community Centre.

The John Williams Memorial pool tournament will take place in Davitts Bar with €500 prizemoney with the Youth section starting at 6.00pm and later that night Jimmy Buckley and his band will be playing in the marquee at 11.30pm for a festival dance.

There will be a walking treasure hunt on Saturday at 2pm, a pasta and pizza night in the Rowantree at 7pm and Monster Bingo in the marquee at 9pm with a jackpot of €1,000. Single books will cost €10 and there will be double books available for €15. Music in Davitts & Fordes.

The final day of the festival will see a family fun day in the GAA park between 2 and 6pm. Events will include a Rodeo Bull, sumo wrestling, bonny baby, glamorous Granny, bouncy castles, surf simulator, dog show, fun races, penalty kick, puc fada, hole in one competition, bbq and much more.

The festival will close on Sunday, 26th August with a festival dance to Derek Ryan and his band in the marquee at 11pm.

With bar facilities available, a funfair and the mobile cinema in town the festival really has something to offer for everyone.
