Four Leitrim school teams ‘Milk it’ for an award

Milk It Awards 2013

Milk It Awards 2013

Four teams of pupils from Leitrim have successfully reached ‘phase two’ of the NDC Milk It Awards for 2013.

Carrick-on-Shannon Community School has three teams through to the shortlist, while Lough Allen College, Drumkeerin also have a team through to phase two. They join almost 100 other teams from around the county.

The NDC Milk It Awards is popular with secondary schools because it is a team-based project which encourages creativity and strategic thinking - but it also has cross-curricular benefits. The concept was developed in consultation with teachers, designed so that it can support school subjects such as Media Studies, English, Art, Business Studies and Home Economics. The NDC Milk It Awards challenges each student team to set up an advertising agency. The students are provided with guidelines and a brief and then take on roles such as Creative Directors and Media Planners to research, design and develop an advertising campaign.

The teenagers who have succeeded through the first round of short-listing in the national competition will now expand their projects to show how their creative and strategic campaigns can be activated, reporting back to the judges by March 1. Based on this expanded work, the judges will select the national finalists who will exhibit their work in Dublin on 1st May, 2013 and pitch to a panel of specialist national judges.

The national competition offers a total prize fund valued at €6,300. The list of successful teams and updates will be published at www.milkitawards.ie.
