All too easy in Kilkenny

Leitrim simply annihilated Kilkenny in this Allianz National League Division 4 game played at rain lashed Ballyragget on Sunday, picking up their second win of the League campaign against a woefully weak home side.

Leitrim 3-19 Kilkenny 0-0

From the early stages when Emlyn Mulligan pointed a free in the fourth minute after a foul on Leitrim corner forward Brian Mc Donald, Leitrim dominated and they consigned the Noresiders to a much undesired statistic of failing to score for the entire 70 minutes, an almost unheard of occurance at inter-county level.

Leitrim could do nothing more than what they did last Sunday, run up a big score as every team will undoubedly do against Kilkenny but the game will have done nothing for either team in the long term.

Indeed, the result has one wondering if Kilkenny would be better off withdrawing from the Allianz Football League as beatings of this nature serve absolutely no purpose for either team and only add expense to hard pressed County Boards in these tough economic times.
